I recently (actually over the long Christmas weekend) had the chance to watch a few movies; via Netflix and Amazon.com on demand, and here is what I have to say:
• I watched A Single Man, and I simply have to say it was a phenomenal and incredible movie. Definitely, it is one of my favorite of my time. I believe Tom Ford was exquisite, and he made a movie very High Fashion, or maybe very High Fashion/Film? If you have a chance, go and rent it, it won’t disappoint you.
• Then, I watched Sin Nombre (Without a Name). A movie produced by Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal. The movie was for me interesting, with a good story but it missed something that I’m not sure what it was. Maybe I need to see it again.
• Also, I saw Winter’s Bone, and as my friend and movie reviewer Agatino Zurria said, it was a great story about, somehow, one of many forgotten little towns in this country, about their people, and how they survive very, but very difficult circumstances. An independent film with great performances, including Jennifer Lawrence.
• Last night I enjoyed very much The Kids are Allright, and I, as an actor, did see superb acting performances by Julianne Moore, Annette Bening and especially Mark Ruffalo. A simple story, very well written, funny, but at the same time, it does make you think about your actions in life, and how much responsibility you must take about them. Great movie.
• Not to forget The Town. I have not been necessarily a big fan of Ben Affleck, but I have to say he made a really good movie. As director and actor he did an excellent job, especially as a director. Then you have Rebecca Hall (I saw her the first time in Vicky Cristina Barcelona), and I will look at that woman eternally. She is gorgeous and good actress. Jeremy Renner and Jon Hamm presented strong characters, and finally Blake Lively surprised me very much as the “girlfriend” of Ben Affleck. She had a small part, but you noticed her when she was on set.
• Finally I watched more episodes of Nip/Tuck, and I have to say, I love that show.
I may go this weekend to the theater and see 1 or 2 movies on a big screen, and before they land on Netflix or Amazon.com
