Reading and learning, and writing, and sharing, and listening, and being young. Education.

Education is, and always will be an important tool to success. Whether it is formal or informal education, the learning process of acquiring the knowledge and experiences, and enriching your mind and your spirit is priceless. It is a fundamental part of fulfilling your life, in my opinion.

One thing I remember from my professor Jesus Velloso back in college is that he said you can learn something from anything you read. Back then, in 1986, it could have been the newspaper, a magazine, a book, a study, but certainly, he’d said you will find a piece of information or material that made it worth the reading and the time you spend reading, and educating yourself.

This week I read a very nice note by blogger Amabel Candy, and I want to quote what she said blogging, and I think it relates to this note I am writing, “Fortunately, being curious and wanting to learn keeps you young and your brain active. A love of learning doesn’t just set you up for a successful blog, but for a successful and happy life.”

Which reminded me about an Oprah Winfrey show I watched back in 2001 (I still have that show on VHS) with Dr. Maya Angelou, who was celebrating her 75th birthday, and Dr. Angelou said that one thing that keeps her young is her desire to learn. She said something like this, when you are 18, 19 or 20 and you think you know everything, you have become an old man, you are old.

Education and learning from anybody and anything keep you fresh; keep you young, because you keep discovering things you didn’t know until then. It is like fresh water into your body, food to your soul and spirit, knowledge that makes your brain staying in shape, and wanting more.

Finally, Mark Twain said, “I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.”

And, that’s why I keep my 5 senses wide open to receive, to learn, to listen, to live, to share, to give. What else? Please, you tell me.
